Ocean View – Coogee Restoration Project

Greg Ferguson and his brickwork team have been engaged for the last six months on the restoration project for Ocean View, 370 Alison Road, Coogee.

Ocean View is a large two storey Victorian federation mansion dating from 1916. Ocean View is heritage listed in Randwick LEP. It is a face brick building with two storey verandahs to all four elevations. The property is surrounded by detailed stone/palisade fences.

Oakleaf Brickwork have been responsible for:

- Detailed repairs to the existing face brickwork
- Repointing of existing face brickwork
- Forming new detailed arch-headed window and verandah openings
- Reconstruction of existing face stone fences
- Reconstruction of existing face stone fences as retaining walls with concrete block cores faced both sides with salvaged existing stone block work

Oakleaf Brickwork during the course of the works have shown evidence of a high level of skills in detailed heritage conservation works on face brickwork and stonework. Their works are carefully considered, particularly when dismantling and reconstructing existing stonework and they show high quality skills appropriate to heritage conservation works.

Greg Ferguson is keen to discuss details in advance, including providing trial samples for approval to ensure details, particularly jointing and repairs, are correct and appropriate to the circumstances. For example, Oakleaf Brickwork numbered all stone blocks to fences and recorded numbers on large photographs of the fences prior to dismantling and reconstruction to match existing.

We would highly recommend the services and skills of Oakleaf Brickwork for high quality and heritage conservation projects.
